Social imaginary of mothers of children exposed to HIV

Abstract

Introduction: Brazil has one of the best programs to combat the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, however, the country faces major challenges, mainly feminization and the consequent vertical transmission, an aspect observed in all countries and notifies children who are born at risk of infection by HIV from mother to child. General objective: To analyze the role of nursing in the mother-baby relationship in the context of maternal HIV/AIDS infection, from pregnancy to childbirth. Method: This is an integrative literature review. The following databases were used: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS), Nursing Databases (BDENF), International Medical and Biomedical Literature Databases (MEDLINE), in addition to the SciELO platforms, with a maximum of 5 years of publication. Results: The database search found 354 articles. After analyzing the abstract, 17 articles were excluded because they did not meet the inclusion criteria. After reading the remaining articles, 34 were excluded, as they did not meet the guiding question of the work, and therefore, 7 articles remained for the development of the discussion. Discussion: It can be seen that women can experience negative feelings, such as sadness, depression, anxiety, among others. Such feelings, as observed, are associated with the social imagination of mothers of children exposed to HIV. Conclusion: The relevance of a professional nursing service team from the perspective of care and guidance for HIV-positive pregnant women, enabling basic attitudes of comprehensive care that impact the construction of the bond between mother and baby.
