Abstract

A recently identified condition that incorporates this concept is Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE). This condition is characterized by long-lasting inflammation of the esophagus, marked by a large number of eosinophils in the proximal and distal mucosa. This may or may not be accompanied by gastroesophageal reflux. Therefore, the following research aims to understand and synthesize information from etiological aspects to therapeutic strategies, providing a holistic and updated view of this medical condition. This is an integrative review, 12 articles remained for analysis in this review. The results indicate that individuals with a genetic predisposition may present infiltration of the esophageal mucosa with granulocytic components, specifically eosinophils and basophils, as a result of the consumption of certain foods such as milk and wheat. One of the benefits of diets as a therapeutic option is that they eliminate the need to rely on chronic medications to control the disease. PPIs are an effective choice for the pharmacological treatment of EE, whether used alone or in combination with other therapies. Consequently, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of conducting more research, including randomized clinical trials, to determine the most effective treatment strategies that can ultimately improve patients' symptoms and nutritional well-being.
