Change in contribution time for retirement under the general social security system for transgender people

Abstract

Gender identity is a personal dimension that reflects how each individual perceives themselves, regardless of the sex assigned at birth, transcending traditional binary definitions and encompassing a diversity of experiences. The political importance of gender identity and the need to challenge social norms to ensure individual freedom are essential for public policies that address the needs of the trans population, and understanding the history of gender identities is the starting point for promoting inclusion. In Brazil, the trans population faces discrimination and violence, with a shocking life expectancy of just 29.5 years. The fight against this marginalization requires integrated efforts to ensure equal rights, including social security. Protecting the rights of trans people, based on equality and human dignity, is fundamental for a just and inclusive society. Internationally, some countries are still in the early stages when it comes to retirement for trans people; Brazil is in a similar situation but is on the path to ensuring social security access for these highly excluded individuals. In summary, this undergraduate thesis aims to analyze and discuss the implications of changing the contribution time for retirement benefits for transgender individuals, aiming to promote gender equality and social inclusion. In doing so, it seeks to contribute to a broader debate on the importance of adapting social security policies to the realities of transgender people and thus building a fairer and more equitable society for all its citizens.
