Objective: To understand the work process related to access and reception of users in rural Basic Health Units in a health region in the Federal District. Method: Descriptive, exploratory and qualitative study. Data were collected between April and May 2023 through semi-structured interviews with professionals and application of a multiple-choice instrument for users linked to rural UBS. The interviews were analyzed according to Bardin. Results: Three categories emerged from the speeches, namely: access and resolution in meeting spontaneous demand; potentialities and weaknesses related to access in rural units; and formation of bonds between the team and the associated community. Conclusion: The work process related to access and reception continues to be reorganized. The flows designed to accommodate spontaneous and scheduled demand guarantee users' access to the health care network, as well as validating primary care as the main entry point into the system.
