This study aims to identify current literature recommendations for the management of Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) in adults, a rare and multifactorial clinical entity with few robust evidences and conducted in a heterogeneous manner. A qualitative research was conducted in databases, selecting relevant articles published in the last five years. In this sense, it became evident that there is consensus regarding the use of nutritional support modalities, especially parenteral nutrition, surgical techniques, and the use of teduglutide, the only GLP-2 analog approved for this purpose, with minor points of divergence identified regarding some criteria and recommendations for the initiation of these therapies. Furthermore, the management of disease complications presents peculiarities that require specialized attention. Finally, many studies are under development, indicating a promising future with innovative therapies that have the potential to significantly improve patients' quality of life. However, further studies and more evidence are needed for these new approaches to be safely implemented in clinical practice, along with the formulation of guidelines that can guide healthcare professionals in managing this challenging condition.
