This article presents a review on alcohol dependence and cognitive behavioral therapy, demonstrating its effectiveness in treating these patients. The main hypothesis is that cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in treating alcohol dependents. Publications indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and National Library of Medicine (PubMed) databases were searched using the terms "cognitive behavior therapy" and "alcohol use disorder" from 2021 to 2026, resulting in the selection of 41 articles. After reading the full text of the available works, 14 articles were selected that directly addressed cognitive behavioral therapy. The published works on alcohol dependence and cognitive behavioral therapy presented the effectiveness of this therapy in treating alcohol dependents, as well as a trend towards online intervention in the target population. High alcohol consumption constitutes a public health hazard with a specific social and economic impact.
