Cryptosporidiosis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Cryptosporidium. It primarily affects young and immunocompromised animals and has gained increasing relevance in sheep farming due to economic losses and herd safety. This study aims to review the main clinical and epidemiological aspects, as well as prevention and control strategies for this infection in sheep, based on studies conducted in Brazil between 2002 and 2025. The literature review included ten scientific articles selected based on relevance, language, and clear methodology. The results indicated a high diversity of Cryptosporidium species involved in sheep infection in the country, such as C. parvum, C. xiaoi, C. ubiquitum, and C. andersoni, which are frequently detected in asymptomatic animals. The presence of the parasite was associated with both intensive and extensive management, but primarily with deficiencies in hygiene and sanitary control on farms. In short, cryptosporidiosis is a constant challenge to animal health and the economic activity related to sheep farming, making it essential to adopt preventive measures based on good management practices, veterinary assistance and early diagnosis.
