Method: This was a systematic review using articles indexed in MedLine, Redalyc, SciELO, LILACS, and PubMed, in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, published between 2017 and 2022, based on the PRISMA guidelines. After certain selection criteria, 5 (five) articles were eligible, being 10% MEDLINE and 90% Redalyc. Results: the main steps in the development of a mobile app in the health area included: analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation and validation, following a strategic planning for the necessary steps to create the app. Through these steps, the chance of achieving success in the completion of the final version of the device is amplified. Conclusion: in the development of a mobile application it is important, in addition to the method chosen for development, the appropriate way in which each step will be performed, because this will generate an ideal structure so that the mobile application developed is useful to the user.
