Clinical evaluation of neurological symptoms in professionals of health after Covid-19 infection in the city of Toledo – PR

Introduction: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has infected more than 219 million people, generating socioeconomic, political and public health impacts worldwide. Neurocovid-19 is a variation that affects about a third of patients due to the tropism of the virus by the CNS and PNS, and can generate short and long-term damages in health professionals who work on the front line of the fight against the virus. Objective: to establish the neurological clinical changes after COVID-19 infection in health professionals in the UBS in the city of Toledo - PR. Methodology: exploratory and quantitative study carried out between August and October 2022, in 20 UBS in the city of Toledo - PR, through the application of self-completed questionnaires made in person and anonymously, previously approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results and Discussion: In 131 research participants, 87 positive for COVID-19, a prevalence of neurological changes of 97.7% was observed, being higher in females (86%) and aged over 40 years (51%). The abstention rate was 67.65%. The highest prevalence of acute alterations was in taste (89.4%) and smell (85.4%). Among the manifestations observed in the long term, there is a higher prevalence of alteration in memory (90%), followed by alteration in reasoning (85%), vision (84.6%) and anxiety (84.5%). More than half of professionals had difficulty concentrating and associated memory loss. Final considerations: a high prevalence of neural symptoms after COVID-19 infection was found in health professionals. The main limitation of the study was the low adherence to research participation. The importance of further studies on acute and chronic neurological changes in this target population for the prevention of long-term complications is demonstrated.
