The impact of Covid-19 on the physical and mental health of university students in the City of João Pessoa, Paraíba

Identify the main factors that interfered with the physical and mental health of university students amid the pandemic caused by the coronavírus 19. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, conducted with 584 individuals, university students, of both sexes, aged between 21 and 30 years. It was decided to include enrolled students who experienced the COVID-19 pandemic. Exclusion criteria were college graduates after the pandemic. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22.0 (SPSS) software. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: The sample, with a mean age of 21 ± 30 years, presented a psychological disorder associated with the pandemic (47.8%), with only 45.5% maintaining their weight during the pandemic period. Faced with the government ban on the presence of students in institutions, due to the imposed domestic quarantine, schools and universities had to adopt the virtual model of learning. The research results show that this interruption of face-to-face learning, mediated by the quarantine, affected the mental and physical health of the participating students. Conclusion: In conclusion, were reductions in positive health behaviors and deterioration of students' mental and physical health.
