Abortion in the lives of adolescents and women: a review of the literature

Objective: To analyze abortion, focusing on adolescent pregnancy, an important issue of public health and social relevance, seeking to assimilate the reasons, motivations and legal scenarios that lead adolescents and women to opt for this procedure and to evaluate the consequences that can lead to their lives. Method: consists of an integrative review of the literature, analyzing articles in Portuguese of the last five years. Results: The sample consisted of 15 articles, from which four thematic categories emerged: Incidence of abortion; Abortion and age; Reason for Abortion and Other Important Points About Abortion. Conclusion: there is a complexity in abortion and an urgency of public policies to ensure access to safe services that do not compromise the physical or mental integrity of adolescents, as well as psychological support to face this difficult decision.
