The approach to grief between palliative care in oncology patients

Palliative care is a holistic approach aimed at improving the quality of life of patients with serious and terminal illnesses, encompassing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects. In the context of grief, this approach also offers support to family members, helping them cope with the pain of loss. The aim of this study is to identify, through an integrative literature review, the role of the nursing team in oncological palliative care and their involvement in addressing the grief of patients. The research analyzed seven articles, divided into two categories: one focusing on nursing and palliative care, and the other on oncological patients and their families. The results showed that 71.42% of the studies addressed nursing and self-care, highlighting the importance of spiritual care and the impact of professional interactions on the well-being of patients. The second category, focused on patients and families, emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary team to improve communication and alleviate suffering. The need to develop personalized interventions in the grieving process and strengthen family support is evident. Scientific production on this topic is limited, particularly regarding the grieving process of oncological patients and their families, but the available studies indicate positive effects of the approach.
