Physical therapy approaches associated with balance in post-stroke patients to reduce the risk of falls

Stroke is a prevalent condition with significant impacts on motor function, especially balance, increasing the risk of falls and their negative consequences for the health and independence of affected individuals. Physiotherapy, with a focus on balance rehabilitation, emerges as a crucial strategy to reduce the risk of falls and promote the quality of life of these patients. This study seeks to identify and evaluate the effectiveness of physiotherapy approaches for managing balance in post-stroke patients, with an emphasis on fall prevention. To this end, a literature review was conducted, focusing on identifying the most effective interventions to improve balance and reduce the risk of falls, considering different therapeutic approaches and assessment technologies. The results indicate that interventions such as dual-task exercises, virtual reality, reactive balance training, aquatic therapy, and the use of technologies such as inertial sensors and machine learning models show potential for balance recovery and fall prevention.
