Abstract

Facial aging is a multifactorial process involving structural changes in both soft and hard tissues, leading to visible morphological alterations and loss of facial harmony. Among the factors that intensify this process, dental support loss stands out for accelerating maxillomandibular bone resorption and compromising soft tissue support. This study aimed to analyze, through an integrative literature review, the correlation between facial aging and dental support loss, as well as to identify combined aesthetic rehabilitation approaches capable of restoring both function and facial balance. Searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO databases, including publications from 2013 to 2025. Results indicated that tooth loss is directly associated with reduced facial height, labial projection, and muscular tone, contributing to the collapse of the lower third of the face. Prosthetic and implant-supported rehabilitations showed partial effectiveness in aesthetic recovery, with the best outcomes achieved when combined with tissue regeneration and facial harmonization techniques. It is concluded that dental support plays a crucial role in maintaining facial function and aesthetics, and that interdisciplinary approaches offer more predictable and long-lasting results in the aesthetic rehabilitation of facial aging.
