Health education and endometriosis: creation of teaching material as a support tool

Abstract

Objective: to develop a teaching tool to assist in the health education process aimed at raising awareness about endometriosis. Methodology: this research adopts a hybrid approach, combining qualitative analysis of interviews and the Design Thinking method, with the steps of data collection, analysis of suggestions, prototyping, implementation and distribution, to create educational material on endometriosis for care nurses basic. The data were collected in a triple border municipality, in Paraná. Results: in the data collection stage, interviews were carried out with six nurses working in primary care to identify the professionals' needs regarding the health education process focused on endometriosis and how a teaching tool could be built to assist in this process. The responses revealed the need to create educational material about the disease, including definition, symptoms, diagnosis and health services. Nurses suggested accessible language and practical integration. The folder prototype was developed based on nurses' suggestions, incorporating visual elements and relevant information about endometriosis and local health services. The implementation and distribution of the material resulted in a better understanding of endometriosis among health professionals Conclusion: the process resulted in the creation of teaching material on endometriosis in Primary Health Care, contributing to a better understanding and information about the disease. Furthermore, it highlights the need to direct efforts towards health promotion in border regions, considering specific psychosocial and cultural aspects. Sensitive and inclusive approaches have the potential to significantly improve the health and quality of life of the local population.
